In 2014, pop singer Kesha sued her producer Lukasz Sebastian Gottwaldand (aka Dr Luke) and tried to invalidate her contract claiming that he “sexually, physically, verbally, and emotionally abused [her] to the point where [she] almost lost her life.” (Rollingstone.com)  After Kesha made this claim, Dr. Luke countersued her. The court denied Kesha a court injunction, which would have allowed her to make music without Dr. Luke. During this time, other celebrities, including Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga, reached out to Kesha.

Kesha just released a new album that features the song “Praying”. This song is reacting to the “Kesha VS Dr. Luke” court case. The chorus of the songs says “I hope you’re somewhere prayin’, prayin’ I hope your soul is changin’, changin’ I hope you find your peace falling on your knees, prayin’”. This surprised some Kesha fans because this is not how most people would have reacted react to what she declared she has been through. Most people would produce a song of hate and defame the name of the accused person.

In an interview with Lenny Letter, Kesha says, “This song is about me finding peace in the fact that I can’t control everything — because trying to control everyone was killing me.”
